Efficient Water Management and Waste Treatment
Efficient Water Management and Waste Treatment
Regular monitoring of water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and ammonia levels is a cornerstone of our approach. We employ advanced water testing technology to ensure precise control and adjustment of these parameters.
Smoked Catfish
In addition to fresh catfish, we take pride in offering premium smoked catfish. Our traditional smoking methods enhance the natural flavor of catfish, providing a delightful option for those who savor the smoky richness in their seafood. We use locally sourced wood for smoking, further supporting sustainable practices and reducing our carbon footprint.
100% Environmentally Sustainable
We prioritize responsible and environmentally-friendly methods, ensuring high-quality fillets for our local consumers. Our catfish are fed a carefully formulated diet that includes locally sourced grains and proteins, minimizing the reliance on wild fish stocks for feed. This sustainable feeding approach not only reduces pressure on marine resources but also ensures the health and well-being of our catfish.

Efficient Water Management and Waste Treatment
Water Recycling System
We implement a closed-loop water recycling system, minimizing water wastage by continually recirculating and purifying water within the aquaculture ponds. This sustainable practice significantly reduces our overall demand for freshwater. The recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) also includes biofilters, UV sterilization, and solids removal mechanisms to maintain water quality.
Supporting Aquaculture Expansion
Care for Cactus is committed to supporting the growth of aquaculture in our region. We collaborate with local farmers and organizations to share best practices, knowledge, and resources. By promoting aquaculture, we aim to diversify local food production and enhance food security for our community.
Waste Treatment
We mitigate water pollution through a multi-tiered approach. Solid waste from our ponds is turned into nutrient-rich compost for our on-site gardens, closing the loop and enhancing soil health. Adjacent constructed wetlands naturally filter water through plants and microbes, purifying it and providing habitat for local wildlife.
Construction of Aquatic Ponds
Pond Design for Optimal Growth
Our aquaculture ponds are meticulously designed to foster the healthy growth of catfish. We prioritize optimal water quality and environmental conditions by engineering pond size, depth, and implementing efficient aeration systems. Each pond is carefully situated to maximize sunlight exposure for natural algae growth, which serves as a supplementary food source for our catfish.
Sustainable Water Source
We ensure a sustainable and reliable water source, preferably from a natural aquifer or rainwater collection system. This reduces our dependence on local water supplies and contributes to broader water conservation efforts. Our aquaculture system includes rainwater harvesting infrastructure, allowing us to collect and store rainwater during the wet season for use during drier periods.
Water Quality Management
Regular monitoring of water quality parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and ammonia levels is a cornerstone of our approach. We employ advanced water testing technology to ensure precise control and adjustment of these parameters. Additionally, our ponds are equipped with aeration systems and circulation pumps to maintain optimal oxygen levels and water flow. Biofilters, along with aquatic plants such as water hyacinths and duckweed, are integrated into our ponds to naturally filter and remove excess nutrients, ensuring a balanced and healthy ecosystem for our catfish.
